This event will be organized on the sidelines of the Bonn Climate Change Conference: 58th Session Of UNFCC Subsidiary Bodies. It will explore how a more integrated approach to international climate governance and DRR policy can drive forward progress on our shared goals of creating resilient societies globally. The concurrent Global Stocktake and Midterm Review of Sendai Framework offer opportunities to build synergies - globally through coherent policies and metrics, and nationally through comprehensive risk management.

The event will primarily target the decision-makers in governments, with active participation and insights from experts and practitioners from disaster risk reduction and climate action domains, besides sectoral representatives.

Objectives:

  • Highlight key opportunities to scale up disaster risk reduction and climate action building on the findings and recommendations of the MTR SF and focusing on the opportunities of upcoming initiatives where a coherent policy basis will be crucial for implementation (e.g. Early warnings for All, nature-based solutions, infrastructure resilience, insurance, etc.).
  • Share good practices in integrated DRR-CCA planning and implementation at national and local levels.
  • Make a call for stronger local climate action towards a bottom-up approach to resilience building.
