We are glad to inform you that ForUm network, in close cooperation with local partners and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as well as the German Development Service (DED), is going to organise a second seminar on Urban Heritage. It will take place in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, from 3 July - 10 July 2010 . Many countries in Southeast Asia have inherited a rich historic architecture and urban heritage. Its great variety, styles and manifestations illustrate different recent phases of the country's history. Greatly neglected and basically unknown, urban heritage is often left unattended, destroyed or improperly restored. This Seminar is targeting at providing a platform for a North-South-South dialogue among the participants and networks from Asia and Europe. Stakeholders from universities, institutions, private sectors, practitioners and civil society groups, including local partners and non-university partners will share their knowledge and experiences.
In the context of increasing globalisation, worldwide processes of urbanisation are of growing importance for research, teaching and capacity enhancement, particularly in regard to development policy and economic cooperation. This seminar is expected to be the second of a new series on Urban Heritage Management as well as the continuation for an additional cooperation and networking for better urban futures.
We will continue the analysis and discussion of the following core topics:
- The role of heritage conservation plans in towns and cities
- Developing Public Awareness
- Participation and Education
- Economics and Heritage Preservation
- Legal Conservation Framework
- Participatory Urban Appraisal
